How do you say good-bye to a beloved mother?
Mom is 86 and she has cancer.
Just weeks ago, she is the epitome of a healthy senior
walking thirty-full minutes a day relentlessly, always on the go
until she had yellowing of the skin or jaundice
We went to one doctor after another, hoping that whatever illness she has
Is nothing to be afraid of.
But the bad news finally came. The results of her tests gave it all away.
She was given this procedure called stent.
To open her clogged bile duct.
But the tumor is still on her pancreas and the doctor said, “not to touch.”
Her age may not permit her to undergo chemo, surgery, radiation.
“Make her comfortable” is what he ordered.
My two sisters from the US came to join the two of us here.
All four of us together, with Mother dear.
Mom lives in my condo at Eastwood.
She eats better now, but still weak, no longer plump.
Lost a lot of weight because she hardly has any appetite.
We take turns being with her.
Eating, sleeping, praying; sometimes the five of us in one room.
We joke around, reminisce, plan things.
Like Mom is still her old self, healthy, not sick at all
With no Sword of Damocles hanging, to say that one day she’ll be gone.
I watch her when she sleeps and I have to hold my tears.
Am I to see my mother die? It is not only heart-breaking
I am dying a little each day myself.
I say to her, “hold on, Mom” I want her to be with us longer.
I want her to fight and I thank God she doesn’t have pain.
She wants to see friends and family come and visit her
She is very strong-willed and had accepted her fate
She says she have lived a full life, but how am I to get it?
I have lived all my life with her, and she is a part of me.
How am I to say good-bye, Mom?
Parting is such sweet sorrow, they say.
Parting is just sorrow, I say.
Especially if it’s a loved one leaving you.
Mom, I know you are going to heaven.
I want you to know I won’t ever say good-bye
I’ll only say, see you again my dearest mother; may God be with you.

- Happy August! The whole month of July I had no post, guilty as charged. But the good thing is that without any post on this side of Multiply, I am busy with other things. Right now, Boy Katindig Jazz Cafe has finally decided to get Pure Sound perform regularly. And I am still waiting for the other artists to come in, as they had also auditioned and passed. And Spasso at The Fort has come back to knock on my door and Dianne Elise is singing there again. Hope they become interested on other artists, as well. On another note, I will be gone last week of October to two weeks of November for a much needed R&R, long awaited Europe visit, just a cruise and some land tours but still, yipee, at last I will be able to set foot on Old World. Not bragging, just very proud. And I work hard so I deserve this. So Europe, (or at least parts of it) here I come!!! ;-)
- HAPPY FATHER'S DAY today the 3rd Sunday of June, 21st day. Also Happy Birthday to Mrs. Tita B. Palad a.k.a. my dearest Mom on June 23, celebrating it on June 26 (so it's a weekend) and to Cheche on June 28, 2010, my niece and goddaughter. I'm glad that even our clients were a little late in booking or booked on short notice, the parties are already lined up this month. And what do you know, it is the third Sunday so it's almost July. We are just too happy to provide the best bands for their event. At 1st Option, quality of service delivered always prevails over any other thing.
- On a personal note, nothing can be busier (to me) than this month. It is our (gulp!) silver anniversary, and my husband said he cannot imagine being with me for 25 years. And, of course, I tell him that I feel the same. So yes, we are opposite. And we are always arguing. Yet as we call each other "sweet," somehow that's what we really become at the end of the day, even after the many "head-on collisions." We are sweet as candy and sugar. But I think, it's not just the name. It's because we are so in love. And corny as it is, who can argue with love? Happy silver my sweetest Simat! Are you ready to renew the contract? How about another 50 years, are you up to it? :-)
(Note: Simat is tamis spelled backwards, and to those who don't know, that's how we call each other.)
- Right after a trip to Singapore, April has gone haywire or just plain crazy. A lost job, a flurry of events, new friends. Which of course is life in general, put in a single month. You win some, you lose some. Winners are great venues like Hard Rock Cafe, Toyz, Balai Taal and Marriott Hotel where talents could play, while Top Gear and Pier One are retained; new acquaintances like Sam who is by far like a brother and at best like a mentor; new faces of clients who are so enthusiastic with their events they are eager to earn a friend (how can I stop myself from wanting to reach out and hug them?) And whatever losses I have are marginal compared to the many positive things I get in return. Wish we all sleep at night and the only thing we think about is what good deed we could do to help this world become a better place to live in. After all, we all try, but some try harder. We ought to value our destiny and map it out to get there in one piece, with our dignity intact, our principles never compromised. This industry is a dog-eat-dog world, not far from other industries. But for some, it's the music that is always important. It's not always about the money.
- What?! It's March and it's past the first week? Whoa. Too much too fast. Been so busy with February and it still is busy. Thank God for the blessings. Thank God for busy which means business is going. And going strong. It is also campaign season so bands play here and there and that's really good for the music industry. The more enterprising, of course, also compose jingles and arrange tunes for the candidates. It is indeed a multi-million campaign season. I heard that one Presidential candidate spent a billion? Outrageous! It could help a family of thousands already. Silver lining please....well, if we change the present government, then THAT'S our silver lining. Let's keep on changing until we find the right match, the right government with only a few manageable flaws. Please!!! And then let's have the industries prosper and trickle the success down to the rest of the masses. Simply put it. I don't want to be deep and political. After all, this is a music site. So, smile and hear music loud.
- So February 14 - St. Valentine's Day is a few days away and this year, it will share the limelight with Chinese New Year celebration. I'm sure the streets will be teeming with people, all too eager to celebrate the fun day with their loved ones and get a lot of good "chi." And when February fever passes, March comes along and the graduates will have a field day celebrating a milestone in their lives. Let us be a part of all your celebration. Leave the worrying to us.
